At the end of September it was announced that John Campbell was leaving Laphroaig after 27 years as their Distillery Manager. While he wanted to be closer to his family on the mainland, he hasn’t let the grass grow under his feet – family owned and independently operated Lochlea Distillery (located just below Glasgow) is proud to welcome Campbell as their new Production Manager. While decades of experience definitely came into play, it was really the creativity Campbell showed with the Cairdeas bottling that attracted Lochlea to the whisky veteran. It seems to be a good match on both sides, as Campbell had this to say, “Moving over to the mainland and joining Lochlea Distillery is an exciting step for my career. It’s an opportunity to develop a whisky that is innovative and distinctive, with a distillery that shares my ethos on quality, environment and sustainability. Getting involved in the process from this early stage means I can help to define what Lochlea becomes. The next few years are going to be incredibly exciting for us and I’m looking forward to us creating something really special.”
Congratulations and all the best, Mr. Campbell and Lochlea!
