Gouveia Vineyards

Gouveia Vineyards, located in Wallingford, CT, is a perfect place to visit on a lovely day for some outdoor wine tasting. They have a sprawling terrace that wraps around the main building, overlooking the pond on one side and the vines and tree covered hills on the other.

Wine is available by the glass and bottle and is quite reasonably priced. The wine offerings are rather extensive in terms of CT wineries – white, rosé, and reds, dry to sweet! I’ve found the wines are a perfect accompaniment to a sunny day spent with wonderful company and good food. You’re also encouraged to bring your own picnic; chairs or blankets are a good idea if you want to sit on the lawns or down by the water.

Like with most of the CT wineries, on lovely weekend days, it’s best to arrive early to stake your claim on a table or patch of lawn. They also generally have a food truck, in case you didn’t bring your own food. The town of Wallingford is only about 10 minutes away and has a nice selection of restaurants that provide takeaway. Also, inside they have small snacks like bags of chips, cheese platters, and sandwiches. It is definitely worth a visit – just don’t forget the sunscreen!
